Every leap in innovation generates a hype – from the rise of the internet as a utopian global village, virtual reality as an “empathy machine,” NFTs as promise of democratization, to artificial intelligence and the current surge of interest in quantum technologies. The initial euphoria usually fades quickly, and today we are witnessing the ensuing fatigue through the example of AI. What has emerged over the past two decades, however, is a new sensation: simultaneity. — Simultaneity reshapes perception, attention, and our inner sense of time. We need new strategies to endure, navigate and create spaces of resonance within this context: places where complex simultaneity becomes tangible, reflectable, and shapeable. The Civa media art festival highlights the interplay between contemporary technologies, realities, and experiences across digital, physical, and hybrid spaces. This year’s festival and exhibition will focus on the realm of quanta. |indeterminate⟩⟨apparatus| brings together artistic approaches that view the indeterminate as an aesthetic, political, and speculative realm. The artists engage with quantum concepts through poetic gestures, multi-layered embodied experiences, and playful abstraction. They explore the infrastructures of emerging quantum technologies and experiment with their creative potential. In doing so, they shed light on the frequently overlooked ecological and social implications that these technologies present while also negotiating their possibilities and inherent ambivalences.
